StitchFix

Hello Hello!!!  So I know a lot of people use this styling service, I do as well.  I originally signed up for it because my friend got me a gift card.  I was hesitant to sign up prior because I personally do not think I need help picking out or styling my clothes but they do have access to some really great clothes that I wanted access to, so I signed up.

To be very honest, I have a love/ hate relationship with the service, after almost every fix I debate cancelling because there is something about it that disappointed me.  It always brings up the question of, can another person really know your personal style?  Especially if this person has never met you or talked to you?

I provided my “stylist” from stitchfix with a link to this blog and I think this is a good representation of me and still I struggle with what is sent to me as not my style or a duplication of something I talked about on my blog so I already owned it.  So it is just very disappointing that this “stylist” duplicates what I already own or just does not understand my personal style.

Now don’t get me wrong I do try to buy something every time so the service is not a waste of money.  And some of the stuff that I buy I really do love, I just wish I loved more than just one piece every fix.

From left to right, the top is a really basic grey t-shirt, the navy top is sheer and dresses up nicely and finally this cargo jacket is really great.

From left to right, this bomber jacket, the striped top that is sheer in the back and finally this patterned skirt.

So there is a lot that I have liked and bought from them but I am just unhappy that I basically only like one thing from each fix.  And the last fix I got, almost everything was a duplicate of something I already owned.  In the most recent fix they basically sent me the same outfit that is in the top middle.  They sent me another navy blue tank top and a metallic gold pleated skirt, they sent it to me after I had posted about that outfit on the blog.

So it is a battle in frustration, and as of right now I have not cancelled it but it is a question I debate all the time.  Sometimes I just wish they would send me some of the really cute stuff that is on their social media instead of the stuff that I get sent.

My verdict is mostly disappointing and did not live up to my expectations.  Also I just really do not think that the stylist really gets my personal style and that is what causes problems.

Casual Weekend Outfit

Hello Hello!!!  Weekends are for casual days and trying not to think about work.  Or at least that is how I strive to live on a weekend.  I don’t like to make a lot of big decisions on the weekend.   So last week I was home visiting my family and and I kind of just threw on some clothes, from what I brought home.  I paired it with the only booties I brought home and I just love this outfit.

(lol I filtered one and not the other, sorry.  I thought it made me look like a ghost so I didn’t do it on the second one and didn’t go back and change the first one)

Alright, so these are probably my most comfortable pair of jeans.  They are skinney jeans but they are not very tight.  I paired them with this gray V-neck shirt that I bleach painted the outline of my home state one it, the shirt just came from Target.  It was nothing really special but I love the gold detail right around the neck.  Now for anyone who travels you know that you only bring one of the chunky clothes home, so this was the only cardigan that I brought home.  And it looks amazing with this outfit.

This cardigan has the waterfall front but on the front it has this really cool woven patter on the front.  It really adds a very interesting detail to the front of the cardigan.  It is really amazing because it is not too bulky but still warm enough.  So it is a little bit more expensive then what I typically pay for, but I love it and it is very worth it.  I have had this cardigan for a few weeks and have worn it so often.

I finished the outfit off with the only pair of booties that I brought home.  Now I am really good in heels so I can wear these all day without having an issue.  But this outfit would look the same with booties that did not have a heel.  (I have been looking for a pair of booties like this but have been unable to find some that I like).

Making casual clothing work in the office setting

Hello Hello!!  This is all about wardrobe maximization, I am going to share a few items that you would not expect to be able to wear in a business setting and how to make them work for you.  This is all about acknowledging what is making the piece of clothing casual and working to mitigate that with your other clothes.  I am going to show you a few ways that I did this.

The Casual Fancy T-Shirt

img_20161002_145725_edited

Now yes this is a nicer shirt than a graphic T-shirt but I would never recommend wearing a graphic T-shirt in a business casual setting.  So the fact that this is a little nicer then a regular T-shirt allows it to work in a business setting.  So what is stopping me from wearing this to work by itself?  Well first it is still a T-shirt and second the bottom of the shirt is just adds to the very T-shirt vibe.

Alright, so my fixes are first tuck the bottom of that shirt into a really great skirt, it does not have to be a super businessy skirt (this one is not) but adding the skirt some tights and a pair of heels really does take the casual away from the shirt.  If you still feel like the shirt you picked is too casual add a cardigan or blazer and that will take away the sleeves.

The Crop Top

IMG_20170704_143733

First let’s state the obvious, this is a crop top and it is meant to show off your belly.  So you would not want to wear this just by itself to work (even on a casual day)  No one in the HR department wants to see your belly.

So my fixes – well you need to take away what makes it a crop top by tucking in the bottom.  So the skirt that you pair it with should be high waisted.  As well as the skirt’s waist band should be good so that the bottom of the shirt does not slip out.  That is the one tip I have, is to be careful with this shirt slipping out.  As well as be careful with skirts that have an eye hook on them.  Otherwise this shirt is pretty appropriate as long as you hide the fact that it is a crop top.

Waterfall Cardigan

So this one is not too hard but I do have a few that have some pretty bright patterns on them.  I love these cardigans because it is like wearing a blanket. I like wearing it under coats because it sticks out and looks cool.

So paired the cardigan with one of my most businessy dresses.  Doing this kind of evens each piece out and the outfit is a perfect business casual outfit with a flare of personality.  I belted the cardigan to keep it a little bit more under control.  Easy to remove the belt at your desk and get more of a blanket affect.

Halloween Outfit

Hello Hello!! So obviously Halloween was this week.  I love Halloween, not because I am good at thinking of great costumes but because I love watching what everyone else comes up with.  People watching on this day is the best, I love to talk with people about who they are dressed up as.

So with that being said I am not very good at coming up with costume ideas on my own and I don’t always want to spend money on a costume that someone else came up with.  This year I wanted to just go into my closet and find something that will work as a costume.  When I was talking with some friends about going out and I thought hey I could go as Sandy from Grease.  That would be super easy.

Sandy

I mean it was really easy, I just went into my closet and found my black skinny jeans (would have been better if I had moto pants but I do not), I put on a black tank top tucked in, added a belt and finished it off with a leather jacket.  You cannot see in the photo but Sandy is wearing red mules, so I added my bright red pumps.  All and all I am really happy with how it turned out and it only cost me $0.  This is probably a costume I would repeat since I already own everything and it was so easy.

Easy Breazy Going Out Outfit

Hello Hello!!  Do you ever have one of those nights that your friend wants to go out but all you want to do is lay around and be lazy?  Yea, happens to me too (like all the time, haha), just kidding but I do have the nights where all I want to do is stay in.

Well this weekend I had a friend come into town and we hung out during the day and she visited some other friends so I was just chilling at home getting comfortable.  When I get a phone call from her saying we are going out and we are in dresses and heels (damn).  I don’t see her that often so I wanted to hang out but man getting fancy did not sound fun.  So here is how I tricked people into thinking I actually tried.

So to trick people into thinking I took a lot of time getting ready, all I really did was get a little black dress (classic when trying to do this), and then I added a leather jacket and heels (in this case heeled boots).

Alright so when I went into my closet I was literally looking for the easiest dress that I own.  I didn’t want it to be tight, I didn’t want it to be short, I wanted the fabric to be soft and I wanted to be able to wear it with a jacket.  I tried on a few dresses before I landed on this black dress.  I have probably owned this little black dress since high school, I have never been able to get rid of it because it is such a classic dress.  It is just a really simple dress, cinches right under the boobs and just flows.  It’s not real short, the one thing about it is that it is low cut.

The suede leather jacket was great because it was cold but also it made me feel more comfortable because it covered up my chest.  I love this leather jacket I think it is really comfortable and cool.  And then I added some heeled boots.  I did this mostly because these boots allowed me to wear socks without anyone noticing I was wearing socks.

(If you would like in sight into exactly how lazy I was when getting ready, look at the pictures.  I am not wearing any accessories.  I am not even wearing earrings.  I actually had taken out my contacts before my friend called and I refused to put them back in so I was actually wearing my glasses out).

Zara

Hello Hello!!  Now I know some of you guys are like how did you not know about Zara.  Well to answer that question, I have lived in places that did not have a Zara.  And yes that is a very sad day that I never was able to shop there prior to my trip to the Twin Cities.

So any ways recently I went to the Twin Cities and there is a very large Zara in the Mall of America.  This store is amazing there is something in this store for everyone.  I do not shop at malls very often so I wasn’t buying anything but the one place I wanted to stop before we left was Zara.  I just want to say the minute I walked in I saw so many things I wanted to try on.  I was talking through the store just picking up things left and right to try on.

I bought a few things – I talked about the first one already, this green dress.

Second – I bought this coat

This coat is just a really soft casual coat.  It is just a big slouch coat that goes down to mid-thigh.  The length I thought would be weird but actually when worn with tight clothes it looks really good.  Like here were I paired it with skinny jeans and a tight top.  I have also worn this to work when I wear a work dress.

Lastly I bought this amazing all over lace bell sleeved top.

I absolutely love all over lace tops, I think they are so feminine and romantic and lately these types of shirts have been my speed.  I have been looking to try bell sleeves for a while and this shirt kind of was just amazing when I tried it on.  I didn’t think I would like the color but I actually do.  The V-neck on this shirt is amazing, it is cut perfectly.  The V-neck is cut narrow and deep which is great because it shows off your cleavage without being too much.

Emerald Dress

Hello Hello!!  A few weeks ago I meet up with one of my best friends and I actually went to a mall for the first time in forever.  (I hate malls, I think they are overly crowded).  Anyways while we were walking around I didn’t really see anything I liked until we got to the last store and then I wanted to buy everything.  What was the last store?  Zara!  I am going to share my thoughts on Zara in a later post but I wanted to rave about one specific thing I bought.

Ahh I love shift dresses, they are so lose and free to be styled however you want.  This shift dress caught my eye right when I walked in the door.  The ruffled sleeves are super cute.  Combined with the v-neck of this dress.  I just want to say the cut of the v-neck is perfect, its low but does not show too much cleavage.  Actually the bright red color of this dress caught my attention but it was not in my size.  I hesitated with the green because its not usually my color but my friend convinced me to try it on anyways.

I am so happy I did, this dress fit me perfectly and at that point I could not leave the store without it.  And the green color is amazing, since I have blue eyes I usually avoid that color but I really liked how this dress looked.
