StitchFix

Hello Hello!!!  So I know a lot of people use this styling service, I do as well.  I originally signed up for it because my friend got me a gift card.  I was hesitant to sign up prior because I personally do not think I need help picking out or styling my clothes but they do have access to some really great clothes that I wanted access to, so I signed up.

To be very honest, I have a love/ hate relationship with the service, after almost every fix I debate cancelling because there is something about it that disappointed me.  It always brings up the question of, can another person really know your personal style?  Especially if this person has never met you or talked to you?

I provided my “stylist” from stitchfix with a link to this blog and I think this is a good representation of me and still I struggle with what is sent to me as not my style or a duplication of something I talked about on my blog so I already owned it.  So it is just very disappointing that this “stylist” duplicates what I already own or just does not understand my personal style.

Now don’t get me wrong I do try to buy something every time so the service is not a waste of money.  And some of the stuff that I buy I really do love, I just wish I loved more than just one piece every fix.

From left to right, the top is a really basic grey t-shirt, the navy top is sheer and dresses up nicely and finally this cargo jacket is really great.

From left to right, this bomber jacket, the striped top that is sheer in the back and finally this patterned skirt.

So there is a lot that I have liked and bought from them but I am just unhappy that I basically only like one thing from each fix.  And the last fix I got, almost everything was a duplicate of something I already owned.  In the most recent fix they basically sent me the same outfit that is in the top middle.  They sent me another navy blue tank top and a metallic gold pleated skirt, they sent it to me after I had posted about that outfit on the blog.

So it is a battle in frustration, and as of right now I have not cancelled it but it is a question I debate all the time.  Sometimes I just wish they would send me some of the really cute stuff that is on their social media instead of the stuff that I get sent.

My verdict is mostly disappointing and did not live up to my expectations.  Also I just really do not think that the stylist really gets my personal style and that is what causes problems.

Making casual clothing work in the office setting

Hello Hello!!  This is all about wardrobe maximization, I am going to share a few items that you would not expect to be able to wear in a business setting and how to make them work for you.  This is all about acknowledging what is making the piece of clothing casual and working to mitigate that with your other clothes.  I am going to show you a few ways that I did this.

The Casual Fancy T-Shirt

img_20161002_145725_edited

Now yes this is a nicer shirt than a graphic T-shirt but I would never recommend wearing a graphic T-shirt in a business casual setting.  So the fact that this is a little nicer then a regular T-shirt allows it to work in a business setting.  So what is stopping me from wearing this to work by itself?  Well first it is still a T-shirt and second the bottom of the shirt is just adds to the very T-shirt vibe.

Alright, so my fixes are first tuck the bottom of that shirt into a really great skirt, it does not have to be a super businessy skirt (this one is not) but adding the skirt some tights and a pair of heels really does take the casual away from the shirt.  If you still feel like the shirt you picked is too casual add a cardigan or blazer and that will take away the sleeves.

The Crop Top

IMG_20170704_143733

First let’s state the obvious, this is a crop top and it is meant to show off your belly.  So you would not want to wear this just by itself to work (even on a casual day)  No one in the HR department wants to see your belly.

So my fixes – well you need to take away what makes it a crop top by tucking in the bottom.  So the skirt that you pair it with should be high waisted.  As well as the skirt’s waist band should be good so that the bottom of the shirt does not slip out.  That is the one tip I have, is to be careful with this shirt slipping out.  As well as be careful with skirts that have an eye hook on them.  Otherwise this shirt is pretty appropriate as long as you hide the fact that it is a crop top.

Waterfall Cardigan

So this one is not too hard but I do have a few that have some pretty bright patterns on them.  I love these cardigans because it is like wearing a blanket. I like wearing it under coats because it sticks out and looks cool.

So paired the cardigan with one of my most businessy dresses.  Doing this kind of evens each piece out and the outfit is a perfect business casual outfit with a flare of personality.  I belted the cardigan to keep it a little bit more under control.  Easy to remove the belt at your desk and get more of a blanket affect.

New skirt

Hello hello!!! Is anyone out there looking for a great business casual skirt that is bold but can still work in your wardrobe?  I have found a great one and it’s on sale.  This skirt is similar to one I own and have been waiting to buy again.  When I ordered it the final price came out to $20, but it is a final sale so be careful with sizing.

So I just got this yesterday so I have only worn it once but I feel fine recommending it since it’s so similar to my favorite skirt.  It’s a really comfortable skirt and the button details on the side are really great to accentuate your figure.  The color is the reason I bought it, who doesn’t want to own a red pencil skirt.  It will make a big statement every time you wear it.

So the reason I was so willing to buy this online without trying it on was because I have a very similar skirt from Loft already.  The skirt was such a great deal that I was ok if it didn’t fit.  So my waist is 27″ and I do have a butt and thighs. I ordered a regular size 4 and it does fit well a little big around my waist but I’m ok with that.

Mixing Patterns

Hello Hello!!  Now I wanted to share and outfit that I have been envisioning in my head for awhile (or like since I bought the shirt).  As I previously stated the last time I did a blog post about mixing pattern, I don’t typically do it because its hard and I don’t own a lot of patterned clothing so it is hard to mix what you don’t have.

Anyways I am super excited about this outfit.

So these are two of my most comfortable clothes so I decided to combine them together and be super comfortable at work.  (I mean leaving out the heels of course).

So why does this work for mixing patterns?  When I mix patterns I like to stick with one piece that is black and white.  I consider a black and white pattern to be one of the most neutral you can get because both colors go well with anything.  I added my patterned skirt and this takes the outfit to a bold level.  I love it, I feel like yes there is a lot going on but it is still very flattering.  The horizontal strips typically are not very flattering but given the shirt is tucked into a pencil skirt and my waist is defined, it works out very well.

How to get away with wearing a T-shirt to work.

Hello hello!! Do you ever have one of those days where you go in your closet and don’t want to wear any of it?  Well I had one of those mornings today. I looked at my work clothes and was just like no. I didn’t want to wear a nice shirt that required a nice bra and an undershirt, that felt like way too much for me today. Haha.  So I kind of went in and was like what’s comfy? And can I wear it to work?

So first question, yes this is a T-shirt, you cannot wear a graphic T to a job.  This is a really casual shirt I typically wear it to lounge or run errands, I do sometimes wear it on casual Fridays with colored jeans and a nice necklace.  This was the shirt I wanted to wear because I can wear a comfy bra and no undershirt so I asked what can I wear this shirt with to get away with it?

To dress up the T-shirt to make it work appropriate it needs to be paired with statement work pieces. First, the bottoms I picked a pencil skirt, this skirt in particular is great for dressing things up. It’s a statement work piece that when paired with this ultra casual shirt all of a sudden the outfit is work appropriate.  Then because I do sit down in meetings I did need to dress up the top so I added this statement necklace.

All in all I was very comfortable today and pretty pleased with this outfit. Will it be added to my regular rotation? Nah I’ll leave it for those desperate days when I am tired.

These Tights

Hello World! I just want to take a minute to talk about a real workhorse of my wardrobe. I am going to talk about tights, I know I know how lame.  But I really want to touch on this topic really quickly today.  So I have probably mentioned this before but I really do not like to wear work pants, a good pair are really hard to find and they are for the most part not comfortable to work in.  In the winter I still really strive to continue to wear my skirts and dress outfits, not all of them but a few.  As previously stated I live somewhere with winter so in order to make this outfit work I add a pair of tights.

These tights are what I wear all the time in the winter.  Why do I love them?  They go really high as well as the waist band on these is large, its not a control top, but what this does is make sure the tights do not bit into you or create a love handle.  I wear these all the time, and they are unbelievably durable.  I have owned a few pairs for the past 2 years and they have no runs in them and still look like new.  I seriously recommend that you buy these they are worth the money.

I know if you go to the link they do cost a lot but seriously worth the money, I have never gotten a run in mine.

(Sorry about the delay I meant to post this yesterday but there was an ice storm and was caught at my friends)

I love wearing blazers as cardigans

Hello Hello!! I  have been noticing that I am working my blazers into my every day work wear by using them as cardigans.  Now I know the question, don’t you feel overly dressed up?  Or doesn’t everyone think that you are interviewing for another job?  The answers are not really and yes sometimes respectively.

I just got this black one, the grey one I got over the summer and the blue one I have had for years.  It started with this blue professor blazer with these great suede elbow patches and the inside pattern that shows when the sleeves are rolled up.  I looked in my closet at this blazer and was like why don’t I wear this more?  I love it, it is one of my favorites.  So I just decided to wear it more. The picture on the right I wore the blazer to work and then traveled right after work, it was perfect for layering.

This grey cardigan I bought from the extra clearance section of Ann Taylor Loft, I had to hem the sleeves because they were too long, but it worked out.  I love this one because it does not have any buttons and the material is very soft, not stiff like a blazer usually is.  It gives off a more casual then business vibe.  The color is grey almost white so I wear it often to lighten up outfits.  The middle picture above I believe was when I went on a date.

This black cardigan is the newest, so I haven’t worn it too much yet but I am pretty sure it will be worn frequently.  So I see this one as the middle compromise between the professor blazer and the chill white one.  It is made of soft material like the grey one but has the buttons and elbow patches like the professor blazer.  Keep an eye out for this one in the future I will likely post pics with it in the future.
